Interactive museum of Monte San Michele

The memory of the First World War lives again thanks to the new immersive museum created by IKON
A museum completely redesigned to move from a concept of purely informative use to an experiential approach that uses technology to engage users on an emotional level. IKON managed the project at 360 degrees taking care of every little detail: from the concept to the design of the set-up, from software development to the supply and installation of hardware devices, from the creation of virtual reality content to the creation of the dedicated mobile app.
The museum is divided into three indoor areas:
- an innovative teaching room to illustrate the conflict thanks to interactive touch screens;
- a VR room to relive in person the events and individual stories that marked these places;
- a room "of memory" in which to see historical video footage projected in 3D mapping and touch some war relics which are symbols of the conflict. An outdoor area follows the trenches and military fortifications with the aid of an augmented reality app. The new Immersive Museum of Monte San Michele won the prestigious international World Summit Award 2019 (organized by the UN and UNESCO), winning in the Tourism and Culture category.
Touchscreen of the didactic area
The wall-mounted touchscreen offers an interactive three-dimensional reconstruction of the fortifications on San Michele. The application allows you to view the network of underground galleries and explore them in person.
The horizontal touch table allows you to explore the different phases of the war conflict thanks to an interactive timeline and a map viewable in different magnification scales (from a European context to the details of Mount San Michele).
VR Room
Design and implementation of the VR room allows visitors to be immersed in a one of a kind experience thanks to the Virtours platform, developed and patented by Ikon.
Mobile App
Implementation of a mobile app (in iOS and Android version) that integrates Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality features: on the one hand the application amplifies the experience of visiting the trenches and fortifications present in the sacred area of Monte San Michele, while on the other hand it allows users who are not on site to enjoy a VR preview of the museum and the proposed digital contents.
Post-production and VFX
The immersive videos shot in stereoscopy were integrated with 3D graphics to recreate the scenarios of the war conflict with a very high level of realism.
