Gamification for tourism promotion

The Plan de Corones ski area has hosted the women's Alpine skiing world cup race since 2017. The organizing committee has entrusted Ikon with the task of creating a video game to promote the event on digital channels.
Kronplatz Ski World Cup is a video game developed for different platforms: desktop (PC and Mac), mobile (iOS and Android) and VR viewers (Oculus Rift). The aim of the game is to get the best time on the racetrack, covering the best trajectories and adjusting your set-up thanks to the controllers. The experience is extremely realistic both on the visual and on the simulation level. The simulator takes into account countless physics factors such as the slopes, the height and weight of the skier, the coefficient of friction of the snow, etc.
The VR version of the game was also used to involve the public on the spot during the race: in fact, spectators challenged each other on the virtual racetrack, wearing the viewer and enjoying the emotions that the champions feel on the track during the real event.

The Erta track

The Erta slope, the site of the competition, was faithfully reconstructed starting from the altimetric map of the area. All the details have been included down to the smallest one to obtain a truly convincing visual rendering (also thanks to Unreal Engine).

Online rankings and challenges on social media

A sophisticated system of online rankings and social sharing has allowed all users to challenge each other in a real challenge in search of the best time. The best players have won several prizes from the organizing committee.

Playing in VR

To play the VR version you don't need to use any controller: just wear the headset and move your center of gravity to the right or left to make turns. Positional tracking takes care of detecting the player's movements and transferring them into the game.

Mobile version (iOS + Android)

The mobile version of the game has been optimized for the best performances on smartphones and tablets. The control system has also been adapted to use methods suitable for this type of device (driving by means of accelerometers or via virtual joypads).

To implement the AR videogame "Ski World Cup", IKON has deployed a team consisting of:
