The future of driving schools is in virtual reality

The Automobile Club of Italy (ACI) has chosen IKON as a technological partner for the creation of an innovative driving simulator that allows students of the Ready2Go driving schools, over 200 throughout Italy, to learn to drive in total safety even before facing the roads and traffic in the real world.
The heart of the system is enclosed in software that, through a VR (Virtual Reality) headset, allows a 360° driving simulation. Students can enjoy an immersive and realistic driving experience.

Ready2Go VR is the first virtual reality driving simulator specially designed for driving schools: the software, created based on the Unreal Engine 3D graphics engine, allows an extremely accurate simulation of the vehicle's physics in all driving conditions and is capable of offering a visual rendering of the highest level.
An artificial intelligence algorithm regulates the traffic simulation and the behavior of other vehicles on the road. The software, which integrates all the rules of the road code, can detect all the infractions committed by the student by calculating the possible number of license points stolen.
The simulated scenarios are different: from urban tracks to motorway ones up to the Vallelunga Safe Driving Center, and include day and night driving sessions as well as variable weather conditions.

Safe driving test at the Vallelunga Center

Students can also try their hand at safe driving tests at the Vallelunga circuit with braking, slalom, and counter-steering tests. At the end of the various tests, the system offers a summary screen that highlights the test results, indicating for example the reaction times in braking or the number of cones knocked down or jumped in the slalom test.

Control of the driving session by the instructor

The instructor can follow the driving session via tablet, checking the student's performance in real-time and analyzing data relating to infringements and driving test results.
The tablet also allows you to select the different types of scenarios available, the lighting conditions (day, night), and visibility (e.g. fog). It is also possible to configure various driving settings including the activation of ABS and traction control and manual or automatic transmission.

The cockpit

The effectiveness of the simulation is also guaranteed by the characteristics of the passenger compartment, also designed and built by IKON. All the elements have been designed to make the driving session as realistic as possible: in fact, the station is equipped with all the controls and adjustments of a real car, from the steering wheel to the gearbox and even the seat belt. The design was also thought to make transport and assembly as easy as possible, to allow the use of the simulator also for events and road tours.

To implement the Tiare Digital Experience, IKON has deployed a team consisting of:

  • Interior Designer
  • Account
  • 3D artist
  • Project Manager
  • Creative Director
  • Video Director
  • PostProduction & VFX Specialist
